Advancing Best Practices in Standards Design and Adoption
PESC’s Annual Best Practices Competition recognizes excellence in standards development across education and workforce technology. The competition the is open to institutions, associations, organizations, government agencies and departments, districts, consortia, non-profit and commercial service providers and other education stakeholders.
26th Annual Best Practices Competition
Submissions can/may include documentation, artifacts and descriptions of the scope of a project, participants and partners, types of standards employed, relevant
dates and project milestones, copies of articles (if an article submission), outline of mission/objectives and any related statistics (# of transactions transmitted, estimated cost savings, etc.).
The PESC 26th Annual Best Practices Competition is open to institutions, districts, states, provinces, associations, nonprofit & commercial service providers, vendors, consortia, government agencies, foundations & other education stakeholders that have collaborated to design, adopt and/or implement an electronic standardization initiative or project via a specific implementation, and/or other medium such as, but not limited to, published articles, white papers, pilots & demonstrations.
Three separate categories of Best Practices are open for submissions (by region, by role, by technology). Awards may be made by PESC each year for each of
the three separate categories; and multiple awards may be made each year under each category. The PESC Board Review Committee may determine that no award be made in a given year under one or more categories.
Competition dates will be announced in 2025.
All entries are judged by the PESC Board of Directors. First place and those receiving special recognition receive immediate notification from PESC, an official public announcement is made in coordination with PESC’s Data Summit and the Award Ceremony takes place during the opening General Session.

25th Annual Best Practices Award Winner
Winner in Technology – UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (USC)
October 16, 2024 – PESC is thrilled to announce the University of Southern California (USC) as the recipient of the 25th Annual Best Practices Award in Technology for their outstanding implementation of the PESC GEO Code standard.
USC’s innovative approach to leveraging the PESC GEO Code has significantly advanced data interoperability in higher education. Since its adoption in 2017, the university has revolutionized data exchange processes, enabling over 4,000 automated international degree verifications annually through the SPEEDE Server. Additionally, their work has enhanced student self-reporting of transfer data, removing barriers and ensuring secure and efficient data exchange across institutions.
